Shaun Cottone identified a critically dangerous trend in Australian workplaces.

When Shaun would ask people, “Why are you under the load?” they would almost always say “How else can I get the tagline?”.
Shaun thought to himself, “How can I make this picture better? How can I make a difference?”.
He came up with TAG-EX – The Tagline Extension Arm.

TAG-EX, an abbreviation for ‘The Tagline Extension Arm’ is a new rigging safety device invented by Shaun Cottone in Western Australia.
It is a permanently or temporarily attached mechanical arm used to protect riggers, dogman, scaffolders and any other workers working with suspended loads. It is attached to any lifting device or object that has the potential to be lifted.
Rope attached to any lifted object is termed a tagline, it is used to steady, turn, manipulate, guide and control the load while it is suspended. Due to the forces of gravity the tagline hangs in a vertical orientation and subsequently beneath the suspended load.
This places the worker in a seriously dangerous and prohibited area underneath the suspended load when grabbing and handling the tagline. It breaches all lifting safety procedures, site rules, safe work practices, JHA’s and general common sense.
TAG-EX folds out in the deployed position from the stowed position to provide an attachment point for the tagline, which is now at a much safer distance from the load when suspended and allows the worker to freely grasp and handle the tagline while remaining outside the line of fire of falling objects and the suspended load.
TAG-EX can also be used to walk the load when at ground level, when used with a mobile crane. It can be used to control the load as a steering arm to position the load when landing, manipulate the load in tight spaces, push and pull the load and general handling of the load all while being at a safe distance from the suspended load keeping the dogman or rigger safe from pinch points and crushers.
TAG-EX can be attached permanently to such items as lifting cages, stillages, gas bottle trolleys, generation equipment, man cages, sea containers, skip bins etc.
The TAG-EX bracket attachment is permanently fixed to items like fixed plants in refineries, processing plants, mine sites, gas plants etc.
TAG-EX also comes in a portable model for single lifts like pipes, steel structures, telegraph poles, light posts etc it is the perfect companion for your Franners and other mobile cranes or in your rigging gang box.
